Devoured Culinary Classic: 2 days, 100+ dishes

By Jess Harter Tuesday, March 5, 2013

For Arizona diners, this weekend is like the Super Bowl, the Academy Awards, and Thanksgiving all rolled up into one event: the Devoured Culinary Classic.

Saturday and Sunday in the sculpture garden of the Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona’s premier food festival will feature an all-you-can-eat feast of the best food and drink available in the Valley.

And if you don’t have tickets yet, you’re out of luck. Devoured 2013 is sold out.

Having covered the fest since it was known as West of Western years ago, I’ve given up trying to find out in advance what each restaurant will bring. Now, I prefer to be surprised.

The lineup is different each day, although a few restaurants participate both days.

Saturday, I’m looking forward to the offerings from Roka Akor, T. Cook’s, Cartwright’s, Maizie’s, Taggia, and SanTan Brewing, which have proven in years past that they’ll bring their “A” game.

Newcomers I want to check out include Davanti Enoteca, SearSucker, Gertrude’s, and Federal Pizza.

Sunday looks to have an even stronger lineup, led by perennial favorite Kai, as well as Hana, Barrio Cafe, Atlas, Beckett’s Table, Tuck Shop, Citizen Public House, Petite Maison, and House of Tricks.

Day 2 newbies include Brat Haus, Blue Hound, and Pig & Pickle.

Note to self: Make sure elastic-waist pants are ready to go.
