Gringo-Star Street Bar, a new bar featuring vintage arcade games, a gourmet food truck inspired menu, and interactive street art, opens at 11 a.m. today in downtown Tempe.
It takes over the former Blondie’s Sports Bar space, below Hooter’s, on the southeast corner on Mill and Fifth Street. It’s open from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. daily.
The 6,500-square-foot venue has industrial furniture, a wood-clad bar, a state-of-the-art sound system for DJs, a stage and dance floor, a patio, and a food-truck-style window serving food.
The menu features such items as Schreiner’s brats, Chicago dogs, Italian hoagies, spicy Korean beef, sweet and sour shrimp (pictured), burgers, fries, and hummus.
The 15 classic arcade games include Mortal Kombat, Skee-Ball, Pac-Man and NBA Jam. Patron also can rent classic game consoles like Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 to play at various spots around the bar.
Gringo-Star is a partnership between Stephen Sperry, Sonny Thurman, and Hartley Rodie (American Junkie);Â Julian Wright (La Bocca, Canteen, Handlebar); Ryan Jocque (Pussycat Lounge); and Chad Landau (Smashboxx).
