Monday Dish: Joyride Taco House, Pro’s Ranch Market, Lulu’s Taco Shop & more

Since MXSW first broke the news that Postino founder Craig DeMarco would unveil a new concept – Joyride Taco House – next to his Gilbert wine cafe, I’ve been counting the days until its opening. Well, my wait is almost over – the Mexican restaurant opens Tuesday.

DeMarco and his partners, known as Upward Projects, already have launched several successful Valley restaurant concepts, including Windsor, Churn, and Federal Pizza.

Since opening in one-half of the former GrainBelt GrillHouse building in March 2012, the Gilbert Postino has become Upward’s most profitable eatery, prompting the partners to lease the other half for the car-themed Joyride.

Joyride will be open for lunch and dinner daily.

Pro’s Ranch Markets file Chapter 11

Pro’s Ranch Markets – which have seven Valley locations, including one in Mesa – have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, allowing them to remain open while reorganizing. The grocery stores feature large food courts and bakeries. In court filings, the 2012 Arizona Retailer of the Year blamed its financial problems on the poor economy and “the perception of the State of Arizona towards immigrants and Hispanics.”

Romeo Euro Cafe’s 22nd birthday

I’d be remiss not to point out Romeo’s Euro Cafe celebrated its 22nd birthday over the weekend – a remarkable achievement in this day and age. If you’ve never checked out this downtown Gilbert gem, perhaps my profile of chef/owner Romeo Taus will inspire you. Read it here.
