Thursday Dish: Superstition Farm’s microcreamery, Cork’s ‘Pilfer the Pantry’

Superstition Farm is in the process of building an on-site microcreamery, and the southeast Mesa dairy farm is trying to raise $100,000 through a crowdfunding campaign to complete the project.

Farmer Casey Stechnij (pictured) and his family have some of the equipment, but still need a vat pasteurizer, a closed bottling system, and packaging materials.

The kitchen will have a viewing window so school classes and other farm visitors can watch the making butter, cheeses and yogurts. The microcreamery also will be available for rent by other small businesses.

Superstition Farm will hold a fundraising rally from 4:30-7:30 p.m. today in conjunction with its weekly farmers market. You can donate to the crowdfunding campaign here.

‘Pilfer the Pantry’ coming back to Cork

In preparation for its annual summer hiatus, Cork has to empty its cooler and cupboards. That’s the impetus behind the Chandler fine-dining restaurant’s popular “Pilfer the Pantry” promotion.

During its last week – June 22-29 – chef Brian Peterson will create spontaneous five-course tasting menus (pictured) based on remaining ingredients for $50 per person. Cork will reopen Thursday, Aug. 1.

Sauce’s popular summer special returns

One of my favorite summer specials – the $20 dinner for two at Sauce in Chandler and Mesa – is back. Dubbed the “Summer Sampler,” it includes choice of a chopped salad (I recommend the chicken, pine nut and gorgonzola), a 12-inch gourmet pizza, and two glasses wine.

You can make it a family outing with Sauce’s $5 kids meals (offered year-round) like mac n’ cheese, grilled cheese, or spaghetti and meatballs (with a drink).

2-for-1 coupon for Devil’s Kitchen

The Devil’s Kitchen, a friendly neighborhood bar and grill on the northwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Warner in Chandler, is offering a two-for-one coupon on food (not valid for alcohol). Print it for free off the Shopping Buyz website .

World of Beer’s Summer Ciderfest

World of Beer kicks off its Summer Ciderfest at noon today. The Tempe craft beer bar will have a variety of ciders (besides the traditional apple) on tap, including pumpkin, pear, raspberry, and some bourbon-barrel-aged ones.
