House of Brews, a neighborhood grill and bar on the southeast corner of Cooper and Warner in Gilbert, is reopening – again – under new ownership.
House of Brews closed in January after 20 months in business, but reopened under new ownership as Jersey D’s House of Brews just 10 days later. A month later, though, it closed again.
Now veteran Valley bar owner Buzz Bezuyen, who recently moved into the nearby Islands neighborhood, is taking over the space. He expects to re-reopen as just House of Brews the first week in August.
“I plan to bring the level of food and service up a few notches,” he says. “The original owner did a lot of things right, and I want to build on that. I hesitate to call it a ‘gastropub.’ We’ll still have burgers and wings. But I also want to do some nice but simple seafood dishes like Steamer’s.”
Bezuyen, whose bars in the last 20 years have included The Caravan and Bootlegger’s in Phoenix and Shepherd’s West Bar & Grill in Peoria, has hired Tim McGovern from Dos Gringos as his executive chef.
As for House of Brew’s beer list, which many craft beer drinkers found wanting, Bezuyen responds, “With 26 beer taps, I imagine we’ll put together a pretty good selection. We’ll have a lot of good stuff in bottles, too. I’m more of a wino than a craft beer guy, so we’ll have a decent wine list, too.”
