The Traveling Monk, the Valley’s newest food truck, makes its debut from 5-9 p.m. today in the parking lot of The Hungry Monk in Chandler.

Hungry Monk owner Jim Lolli bought the used truck, which he thinks was a Snap-on tool truck at one time, several months ago and had it retrofitted with a full kitchen, including two burners, an open-flame grill, a flat-top stove, a four-basket fryer, coolers, a prep station, and four sinks.

The truck’s beer-inspired menu, created by Monk staffer Gidi Goldberg, will feature burgers, wings, and various finger foods. For tonight’s debut, however, the menu won’t include burgers or wings, since you’ll be able to buy those inside the restaurant.

Truck items available tonight will include BBQ pork tacos with jalapeno slaw and bacon aioli (three for $5), bacon-wrapped and deep-fried hot dogs on a stick with chipotle ketchup and beer mustard ($5), and hand-cut fries topped with bacon, green onion, and blue cheese ($5). See its menu here.

Diners will be able to bring food truck items inside the restaurant. As a bonus, Wednesday is $3 Craft Beer Day at The Hungry Monk. To schedule the food truck for an event, call 480-963-8000.
