Saturday: Learn how to pick and prepare prickly pear fruit at Boyce Thompson

By Jess Harter Friday, July 26, 2013

Saturday will be the first of three one-hour workshops on prickly pear cactus fruit at Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior. The popular annual classes teach how to pick, prepare, process, and preserve the seasonal fruit.

East Valley author Jean Groen and her prickly pear picking accomplice Robert Lewis will lead 10:30 a.m. class, which will conclude with some tasty prickly pear snacks.

The class will be repeated Sunday, Aug. 18, and Monday. Sept. 2. The Aug. 18 class will be taught by Eric and Terri Naddy of Tall Order Catering. Groen and Lewis will return for the Sept. 2 class.

No registration is necessary; just be in the arboretum’s visitor center breezeway lobby by 10:30. The classes are included with the $10 daily admission.
