El Rey Cafe, a spinoff of the legendary Globe restaurant, has closed its doors in Queen Creek. Owner Marisa Bracamonte says her small Mexican eatery just didn’t draw enough customers.

El Rey opened on the southeast corner of Sossaman and Queen Creek in 2012. Its signature menu item: Housemade tortilla chips drizzled with butter.

The original El Rey Cafe has been a Globe institution since 1947, garnering acclaim from numerous publications as one of the best Mexican restaurants in Arizona.
