End of an era: For 1st time in 26 years, there’s not a McDuffy’s in Valley

McDuffy’s Grille, the last vestige of one of the Valley’s preeminent sports bars, has closed its doors in Chandler, making the surprise announcement on its Facebook page:

We are officially closed. We wish our amazing staff well and thank our loyal customers for being there through all our ups and downs. Thanks for the memories!

The original McDuffy’s opened just off Mill Avenue in downtown Tempe in 1988, and its TV-laden interior quickly became a favorite gathering place for football, basketball, and hockey fans. A second McDuffy’s eventually opened in Peoria.

After the Tempe location closed in 2006 (followed a couple years later by Peoria), owner Scott Adams opened McDuffy’s Grille on the northwest corner of McQueen and Pecos in Chandler in 2007.

While still showing games on numerous TVs, the new concept aimed to be more of a family-friendly restaurant.
