Dieter Foerstner, the brewmaster who left Tempe’s Gordon Biersch last year to join little-known Angel City, has been drawing a lot of attention at the downtown Los Angeles brewery.
The latest to notice: The Los Angeles Times, which ran a nice piece over the weekend on Angel City’s experimental beers (even though it misspelled Foerstner’s name throughout).
In April, Foerstner unveiled French Sip, a brown ale inspired by two L.A. restaurants fighting over which invented the French Dip sandwich. Brewed with rosemary, peppercorns, pink sea salt, and seaweed, the beer drew rave reviews.
The red-headed brewer (pictured above at the Arizona Strong Beer Festival) followed up in June with Pickle Weisse, a tart Berliner weiss spiked with pickle brine.
Foerstner’s latest creation is an avocado beer that will debut at the brewery’s Avocado Festival on Saturday. Seasoned with cilantro and other spices, it’s like guacamole in pint glass.
Even though it’s a small-patch brewery, Angel City recently announced its two flagship beers – Angeleno IPA and Eureka Wit – will be bottled in six-packs and 22-ounce bombers and available in L.A. stores on Sept. 9.
It’s also planning to bottle other beers, including some of its experimental ones, next year.
