Two days, two new East Valley breweries. A craft beer drinker could get spoiled living here.
The oft-delayed Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company finally threw open its doors this afternoon for a nine-day soft opening. There’s only three beers on tap and no food – not until its Sept. 2 grand opening – but it didn’t stop people from packing Gilbert’s first brewery in its first hour of business.
For now, Wilderness will be open 3-9 p.m. daily. There will be a food truck on-site Sunday, but most days the food options will be limited to the Chex/Goldfish mix in dishes on the bar. On Sept. 2, owner Brett Dettler says the brewery will expand its hours to 11 a.m.-midnight and launch its kitchen menu.
As its name implies, the decor has an Arizona outdoors theme. Note the bar is dark wood instead of metal or concrete. Each beer is served in a glass appropriate to its style.
On tap: Little Guy Rye, Estrella Pale, and Red Rock Secret. Pints are $4.50, and growler fills are $10. The tap handles are pieces of a small tree.
Besides seating at the bar (visible in upper right), there are chairs and tables.
Much of the equipment used by brewers Jon Buford and Patrick Ware is set up in one of the corners of dining area.
There’s also a secondary “bar,” although it functions only as a high table. Notice the brewing equipment in the background.
Coming soon: Refuge IPA. There’s also a Berliner Weisse, a sour wheat beer, that should debut next week.
