Four Peaks Brewing releases its most popular seasonal, Pumpkin Porter, today (well, technically at midnight last night) and for the first time is selling it in cans.
This year’s version debuts a week earlier than last year’s. It’s available in pints ($4.50) or cans ($15 per six-pack) – no growler fills – at all three Four Peaks locations this week, then will roll out in kegs only at Arizona bars.
Because of the limited supply of Pumpkin Porter in cans, Four Peaks is limiting purchases to 2 cases. Next year, it also will be available at retail outlets.
A pumpkin-flavored beer was a bit of an oddity when the Tempe brewery debuted its version in 1999. Today, there are more than 1,000 pumpkin ales brewed across the country.
Brewmaster Andy Ingram says Four Peaks’ recipe, which uses an aseptic pumpkin puree, has not changed in 15 years.
Pumpkin Porter is intended to be available until Thanksgiving. In 2011, though, it sold out several weeks early due to its popularity, leading Four Peaks to increase production by 30 percent last year.
