Two months ago, we told you Canteen Modern Tequila Bar in Tempe would be closing sometime in October and be remodeled into the Valley’s second El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria.
The first step happened about two weeks ago, when Canteen closed its doors on the southwest corner of Mill and Sixth Street, and the demo work has begun.
Canteen, which opened in March 2010, was part of restaurateur Julian Wright‘s Mill Avenue empire that still includes La Bocca Urban Pizzeria & Wine Bar, The Handlebar, and Gringo-Star Street Bar.
El Hefe, which debuted in Scottsdale in March 2011, offers tacos, tortas, and booths with their own beer taps. The Mill location isn’t scheduled to open until early 2014.
