The Wolfpack is on the prowl again.
Twenty representatives of the Valley’s top craft beer bars got together last June to collaborate on the brewing of a double IPA, which was released on National IPA Day.
Now the group, which took its name from the “Hangover” movies, is collaborating a new brew: An Arizona-themed strong winter ale to be released Feb. 14.
The yet-unnamed beer will incorporate Arizona’s so-called “five Cs” – citrus (oranges and tangerines), cotton (malted and roasted cotton seeds), cattle (milk sugar), copper (color), and climate (a winter ale style appropriate to February).
The Feb. 14 release date was chosen because that Friday is Valentine’s Day, Arizona’s 101st birthday, and the unofficial start of Arizona Beer Week.
Like the IPA, 20 barrels of the winter ale will be brewed at Sleepy Dog Brewery in Tempe under the supervision of group founder James Swann and Sleepy Dog brewers Rob Sizemore and Matt Weber.
Among the craft beer bars participating are The Hungry Monk, Lucky Break, World of Beer, Flanny’s, Boulders on Broadway, Spokes on Southern, Taste of Tops, Yucca Tap Room, Draw 10, Angels Trumpet, Ground Control, and Caballero.
“Every great craft beer bar in the Valley will have a keg of this beer,” Swann says.
