Sporting one of the wordiest restaurant names I’ve seen, Julia’s Joint Mesquite Mexican Grill & Burger Shop has opened on Arizona Avenue, just north of Warner, in Chandler.
It takes over the stand-along building that was home to short-lived Flameburger (I’m told one of the former Flameburger partners is the owner of Julia’s Joint) and, before that, an El Pollo Loco franchise.
The concept is similar to Chipotle: Customers stand in line to place their order and direct the customization of their burro, tacos, or burger.
Julia’s Joint, however, offers a greater seelction of meats than Chipotle, including sirloin (carne asada), chicken (pollo asado), marinated chicken (pollo adobado), marinated pork, chile rojo, chile verde, and barbacoa.
All meats, including burgers and hot dogs, are cooked in-house on a mesquite grill. A salsa bar offers a half-dozen varieties, plus condiments.
Burritos, burrito bowls, quesadillas, and four-taco plates are $5.99. Burgers start at $3.99.
Beverage options include four kinds of housemade aguas frescas. No alcohol is sold.
Julia’s Joint is open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
