You’ve had your turkey. Now for your Goose.
At 6 p.m. today, Papago Brewing will host a Goose Island tasting. On the tap list: Bourbon County Stout, Bourbon County Barleywine, Lolita, Illinois IPA, Sophie, and Matilda.
The highlights for craft beer aficionados will be the two Bourbon County barrel-aged beers – an imperial stout (14.5% ABV) and an English-style barleywine (12.1%).
Goose Island, a pioneer in Chicago’s craft beer scene, entered the Arizona market last November and is best-known for its core beers 312 (urban wheat ale), Honkers Ale (English-style bitter), and IPA.
Two years ago, Goose Island was bought by giant Anheuser-Busch/InBEV, which now makes those core beers at its various production facilities around the country.
The shift has allowed the Chicago brewery to increase production of its barrel-aged and Belgian-style lines. The latter includes Sofie (farmhouse ale), Matilda (pale ale), and Lolita (wild ale).
