Dîner en Blanc-inspired pop-up picnic to be held April 12 in Valley

Is the Valley ready for its own Dîner en Blanc, the famous French “pop-up” picnic described as equal parts mystery, anachronism and caprice?

The annual Paris event (pictured above) began humbly in 1988 but quickly has grown into a must-attend soiree drawing thousands of participants elegantly dressed in white.

Diners don’t learn the site of the dinner until the last minute. They set up their own tables, provide their own food, and clean up after themselves.

The Dîner en Blanc (“Dinner in White”) has inspired copycat dinners in cities around the world. New York launched its version in 2011. Here’s how it looks…

Now, a version called Dinner d’Arte will be held Saturday, April 12, at an “iconic location” in the Valley. Diners won’t learn the location until 1 p.m. that day. All-white attire will be required.

Set-up will begin at 5 p.m. – guests are urged to think creatively in decorating their table – and dinner starts at 7. The event will end at 10, when diners are asked to leave no trace of the evening’s activities.

Diners are responsible for bringing their own meal and any non-alcoholic beverages. Pre-ordered gourmet baskets with wine will be available for purchase on-site or in advance on the event website.

Besides tables, chairs, and the site, organizers also will provide “live music, world-class wine, dancing, and amazing works of art.”

Tickets can be purchased at www.dinnerdarte.net for $35 per person.
