Today’s AZ Beer Week highlights: Hot Scotchy Night, Dogfish Head A-Hop-Eclipse, Fate Tap Takeover

Hot Scotchy Night

Sold for the first time in Arizona during 2012 Beer Week, the Hot Scotchy is a “secret” brewer’s drink made by adding Scotch to wort (the hot malt sugar of a beer mash). Three variations will be available from 6-8 p.m. at The Hungry Monk, courtesy of the Arizona Society of Homebrewers. San Diego’s Alesmith also will be on hand with its Speedway Stout, IPA, Alesmith X, and Nut Brown.

Dogfish Head A-Hop-Eclipse

From 2-11:45 p.m., World of Beer in Tempe and Gilbert will host a Dogfish Head tap takeover featuring 60 Minute, 90 Minute, Sixty-One, Indian Brown, Burton Baton, Aprihop, Hellhound, and 120 Minute IPA.

Ska Tap Takeover

Ska from Durango, Calif., will tap a bunch of its beers, including Modus Hoperandi and Decadent imperial IPA, from 6-8 p.m. at the House of Brews. Pints will be just $4.

Freaks of the Industry

Meet Doug Odell, owner of Odell’s, and Chuck Silva, brewmaster at Green Flash, from 6-8 p.m. at Taste of Tops. On tap will be Green Flash’s Black Freak (first time in Arizona), LeFreak, Little Freak, and Super Freak, and Odell’s 2013 Friek and 2012 Friek.

Fate Tap Takeover

FateBrewing200Fate is extending its hours from noon to 11 p.m. for its biggest event of Beer Week. All 12 taps will feature Fate small-batch beers (usually only about half do). There’ll be special taster and pint pricing, plus pizza specials.

Got Wood?

Leah Huss from Papago Brewing and Steve Altimari from Deschutes Brewery will discuss the science behind barrel-aged and wild beers from 6-8 p.m. at Papago. An aged collaboration beer between Hair of the Dog Brewery and Deschutes will be tapped. Seating is limited; RSVP: 480-425-7439.

Quail Fest

Quail Distributing will hold its second annual Quail Fest from 3-7 p.m. at Whole Foods Chandler. Participating breweries will include Nebraska, Destihl, Black Market, Black Diamond, Rough Draft, Cismontane, and Unity Vibration.

Beer Floats

Enjoy a beer float samplers from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. at SunUp Brewery. Four small beers will be paired with ice cream from local award-winning ice cream shop Sweet Republic.
