Last August – four months before it opened – World of Beer Gilbert announced its first event: A Sierra Nevada tap takeover that would set the world record, which (at the time) was 70 beers, set at a Sierra Nevada tap takeover at Cannery Row Brewing Co. in Monterey, Calif., in 2012.
Unfortunately, events and politics have derailed WOB’s chances for a new world record. First, HopCat craft beer bar in East Lansing, Mich., hosted a 100-beer Short Brewing tap takeover. Then the government shutdown significantly slowed Sierra Nevada’s pilot-beer program.
So this Saturday, beer drinkers will have “only” 80 Sierra Nevada ales to choose from – but it’s still a record for the Chico, Calif., brewery. If you’re familiar with WOB Gilbert’s layout, you can see the list of beers and their tap locations here.
The all-day event will benefit the Arizona Small Dog Rescue.
