The list of new restaurants headed to downtown Tempe has a couple more names.
The first is Spinelli’s Pizzeria, a Louisville-based concept’s first location outside Kentucky, which will open on the northwest corner of Mill and Fifth (below Gordon Biersch) in August.
Despite its Bluegrass State roots, the pizza is Philadelphia-style, inspired by the late-night pizzerias the chain’s founder frequented while growing up in the City of Brotherly Love.
The decor will feature walls covered with pizza-themed graffiti. The Spinelli’s in Louisville are open until 5 a.m.
In September, hugely popular California chain Ike’s Love & Sandwiches will open its second Arizona location on the northeast corner of Mill and Seventh.
Founder Ike Shehadeh made national headlines when his San Francisco shop was sued by its neighbors because it was too popular, sparking thousand of fans to don “Save Ike’s” T-shirts.
Ike’s has a dozen locations in California, and opened its first out-of-state location across from Fiesta Mall in Mesa in February.
