New Mexico-style Mexican restaurant Secreto has closed at 42d Street and Chandler Boulevard in Ahwatukee. More accurately, it’s been locked out by the landlord of the strip mall, according to a notice posted on the door.
Secreto opened in June 2010, taking over a space that formerly housed Havana Cafe. Its menu featured spicy dishes like green chile mac and cheese, pork rellenos, and carne adovada.
The restaurant was a distant cousin, of sorts, of well-known Phoenix restaurant Richardson’s. Secreto co-founder Barbara Brown was married to the founder of Richardson’s, where she handled front-of-house duties for many years.
