Opa Life Greek Cafe will open Saturday in the former My Big Fat Greek Express strip-mall space on the southeast corner of Mill and Baseline in south Tempe.
The new concept appears to be some type of unannounced rebranding of the financially troubled My Big Fat Greek Restaurant chain.
Opa’s name is registered to Adam Kariotoglou, the restaurateur who dissolved his My Big Fat Greek Restaurant Franchise Group in 2011.
Opa’s website lists 12 Opa locations, all of them with the addresses of the remaining My Big Fat Greek Restaurants (although they aren’t identified as such) in Arizona, California, and Colorado.
The website also says Opa was founded in Tempe in 2003, which is when My Big Fat Greek Restaurant was launched.
If this is an under-the-radar rebranding, Opa’s menu appears much more streamlined: mostly breakfast paninis ($7.75-$8.75), pitas ($9.95), wraps ($9.95-$11.95), and souvlaki ($11.95-$16.95).
Opa Life Greek Cafe will be open 6 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
