After a soft opening about a week ago, Rck Cty will hold its official grand opening Friday in the basement space formerly occupied by The Big Bang on the southeast corner of Mill and Fifth Street in downtown Tempe.

The Big Bang, a dueling-pianos bar, closed Sept. 6. Rck Cty (pronounced “Rock City”) is more of a traditional nightclub and lounge.

The venue has undergone a cosmetic facelift – new paint, new countertops, etc. – but the large stage remains. Plans are for live karaoke on Tuesdays, live music on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and DJ music on weekends.

Although Rck Cty is serving alcohol, it’s still awaiting the permits necessary to open its kitchen.
