Opening today: Sam Fox’s Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar in downtown Gilbert

Long-awaited Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar, Sam Fox’s gourmet burger and wine bar, finally opens today on the northeast corner of Gilbert and Vaughn in downtown Gilbert.

Fox debuted the Zinburger concept in Tucson in 2007. There now are five locations – two in Tucson, one in Phoenix, one in Scottsdale, and the new one in Gilbert, where the 5,600-square-foot restaurant and patio seats 197 people.

ZinburgerBurgerOther than a half-dozen salads, the menu sticks to burgers – 17, to be exact – although that includes a chicken burger, turkey, ahi tuna burger, and veggie burger. (See menu)

Prices start at $9.50 for the Plain & Simple Burger (just lettuce, tomato, and mayo) and top out at $15.50 for the American Kobe Burger (with cheddar cheese and wild mushrooms). And that doesn’t include a side.

There are lots of sharable (for two) side options, including hand-cut fries ($5), sweet potato fries ($5), truffle fries ($6), zucchini fries ($7), loaded fries ($7), and green chili fries ($7) — and that’s just the fries.

ZinburgerShakeA dozen milkshakes ($5-$6) range from Nutella hazelnut crunch to salted caramel.

There are eight beers on tap and nine in bottles, mostly craft beers, although some may balk at paying $6 for a pint of Dale’s Pale Ale.

Eighteen wines, 12 red and six white, are available by the glass ($6-$12) or bottle.

Brunch is offered Saturday and Sunday. (see brunch menu)

Zinburger is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
