And here I thought Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill and east Mesa were a perfect match. I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
The gigantic country-western bar and restaurant, which opened in April 2009, has closed its doors at Mesa Riverview. Owners say they plan to reopen next year in northeast Phoenix.
The 20,000-square-foot space featured a restaurant that served fried bologna sandwiches and deep-fried Twinkies, an 85-foot bar shaped like a guitar (pictured), a dance floor and stage for nationally touring acts, a mechanical bull, and a gift shop selling Toby Keith’s CDs and T-shirts.
The chain still has 15 locations, including one in the West Valley.
