Saddle up! The fifth annual Chandler Chuck Wagon Cook-Off will be held Friday through Sunday at Tumbleweed Park, located on McQueen Road about a mile south of the 202 Freeway.
The public can buy meals from 1880s-era chuck wagons from around the Southwest competing in various food categories. There also will be a bunch of other Old West-related activities.
Gates open at 9 a.m. each day, and admission is free. Here’s a day-by-day breakdown:
Friday: The public can meet the chuck wagon teams, watch cooking demonstrations, and gather for an evening Campfire Glow (6-8 p.m.) with cowboy storytelling, singing, and S’mores.
Saturday: Chuck Wagon lunches ($12) will be served at noon. There will be cowboy music, gun-fight reenactments, historic demonstrations, hands-on activities, wagon rides to the Arizona Railway Museum, and another Campfire Glow (6-8 p.m.).
Sunday: Cowboy breakfast ($10) will be served at 10 a.m., with a salute to veterans by the Buffalo Soldiers of the AZ Territory, a youth cook-off, cowboy music, and cooking demos by TV celebrity Jan D’Atri.
The event ends at 4 p.m. Sunday.
