This week, SanTan Brewing founder Anthony Canecchia talks about his seasonal Sex Panther Double Chocolate Porter (6.9% ABV).
Beer style: “Sex Panther is a double chocolate porter brewed with Honduran cocoa powder and lots of chocolate barley malt.”
The inspiration: “SanTan is dedicated to pairing craft beer and craft food so combining the two has never seemed unusual to us. We were looking for something comforting in the ‘less hot’ winter months of Arizona.”
The debut: “The beer debut was 2009 as a chocolate barleywine that clocked in at almost 10% ABV. We toned it down to a porter in 2010 because people were getting hammered!”
The name: “A man named Brian Fantana introduced us to his special musk. It’s illegal in nine countries.”
One-sentence description: “Sex Panther is chocolaty and smooth and pairs well with not only sweets but with smoked meats and cheeses. Its 6.9% ABV will sneak up on you because it drinks really easy.”
