Good news for residents of southeast Gilbert: Tailgaters Grill on the northwest corner of Higley and Queen Creek has been sold and improvements are in the works.
Since opening in 2009 – in an area with limited dining options – the large sports bar and restaurant had developed a reputation for sub-par food and poor service.
As of this week, though, Tailgaters has new owners and changes are coming soon. The run-down interior is going to get a facelift, and the menu is being revised from top to bottom.
“The biggest thing we need to address right away is the food,” one of the new owners tells me.
The couple, who had a Mesa pizzeria called Scardetto’s about a decade ago, will rely on their Chicago Italian background. Look for square-cut pizza, chicken parmesan sandwiches, and Italian beef and sausages.
Tailgaters will remain open every day while the changes are rolled out. The new owners hope to have the process completed by New Years Eve.
