Downtown Chandler, already home to an impressive collection of 20 or so restaurants surrounding A.J. Chandler Park, is getting even more.
The city council just approved a proposal for a new development on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.
The centerpiece will be the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a two-story bar and restaurant with a separate eight-screen movie theater.
The Texas-based chain, which will make its Arizona debut, does not brew beer, but offers a variety of craft beers, especially local ones.
The developer hopes to open Alamo by the end of 2015.
The approved development also will include The Vig, a popular local chain of neighborhood bar and grills with three locations in Phoenix and another in Scottsdale.
Mill Avenue nightlife entrepreneur Julian Wright will add spinoffs of his pizzeria and wine bar La Bocca and Mexican restaurant and bar Modern Margarita.
