Avión, named the “world’s best tequila” at one prestigious competition, will be featured at a three-course tequila dinner Jan. 22 at La Ristra New Mexican Kitchen in Gilbert.
Avión was founded in 2007 and initially gained fame from a recurring storyline on the HBO series “Entourage.”
At the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Avión won five awards, including World’s Best Tequila. It also was named Best White Spirit, beating out all tequilas, vodkas, gins, and white rums.
The Jan. 22 dinner, which starts at 6 p.m. and costs $55 per person, will feature Avión’s entire family of tequilas, including Avion 44, a hand-bottled extra anejo tequila.
Avión 44 is aged for 43 months in oak barrels, then an additional month in specially selected petite barrels that are rotated daily. It sells for $150 a bottle.
