What’s a Hot Scotchy, you ask? It’s a drink made by brewers by adding Scotch to wort (the hot malt sugar of a beer mash). Some have called it “the greatest beverage in the world.”

Unless you (or someone you know) brews their own beer, it’s a drink you’re likely to never encounter. In fact, it had never been for sale to the public in Arizona before 2012.

AZBeerWeek2015That’s when the Arizona Society of Homebrewers, the nation’s largest homebrewing club, began their annual Hot Scotchy Night during Arizona Beer Week.

You can try the drink at three different venues around the Valley tonight.

From 6-9 p.m., The Hungry Monk in Chandler will be offering versions made with Dewers White Label, Jim Beam, or Glenlivet 12 Year. (Thanks to ASH members Jackie Eckman and John Rudolph.)

From 6-9 p.m., Yucca Taproom in Tempe will have versions made with whiskeys, ryes, and Scotches, including Arizona Distilling’s Copper City. (Thanks to ASH members Krystal Bittner and Matthew Elliott.)

From 4-9 p.m., Moto in Phoenix will have several Scotch versions. (Thanks to ASH member Nick Sofranac.)
