Firkin festivals at Flanny’s & Angels Trumpet
There are just three days left in Arizona Beer Week, and today will feature several firkin events around the state. From 6-10 p.m., Flanny’s in Tempe will host its fourth annual Colorado Firkin Festival with small casks from Ska, Odell, New Belgium, Breckenridge, Great Divide, Oskar Blues, Left Hand, Epic, Upslope, and Elevation Brewing. Over in Phoenix, also from 6-10 p.m., Angels Trumpet will hold an Arizona Firkin Night with casks from Fate, Huss, Papago, BJ’s, Wonderlust, Lumberyard, Phoenix Ale, Sonoran, Borderlands, OHSO, Beer Research, SanTan, Dragoon, and Mother Road.
Bacon & Beer Pairing at The Brass Tap
If you love bacon, you’ll want to reserve a spot at tonight’s Beer & Bacon Pairing at The Brass Tap at Mesa Riverview. For $20, you’ll explore four pairings with SanTan beers covering breakfast (candied bacon and red-eye links with Cafe Panther), lunch (bacon and blue cheese drizzled with sriracha with HopShock IPA), dinner (chipotle bacon-wrapped shrimp with Devil’s Ale), and dessert (white chocolate-dipped bacon with Mr. Pineapple). The 6 p.m. pairing is limited to 50 people.
Tempe Bar Crawl with Big Sky co-founder
Bjorn Nabozney, co-founder of Montana’s Big Sky Brewing, is in the Valley for Arizona Beer Week, and today he’ll lead a bar crawl in downtown Tempe. Starting around 4 p.m. at World of Beer, the tour also will hit CASA, Mellow Mushroom, and, lastly, Taste of Tops for Big Sky beers. Nabozney then will be hanging out at Taste of Tops from 8-10 p.m.
Firestone Walker at Whole Foods Chandler
Jeffers Richardson, the guy in charge of the barrelworks program at California’s Firestone Walker Brewing, will bring 18 beers, including barrel-aged 2014 Agrestic and Reginald Brett, to a tap takeover at 5:30 p.m. today at Whole Foods Chandler. At 7:30, Richardson will host a 12-handle tap takeover at Skeptical Chymist in Scottsdale. See the tap lists here.
Barrel Aged Beerfest at Taste of Tops
From 6-8 p.m. today, Taste of Tops in Tempe hosts its Barrel Aged Beerfest, featuring big beers like Avery Samael’s, Deschutes The Abyss, Epic Big Bad Baptist, Founders Backwoods Bastard, Full Sail Black Gold, Hangar 24 Pugachev’s Cobra, Straffe Hendrick Heritage, and Four Peaks’ trio of Greg’s Dickel, Double Rojo, and Sirius Black.
