Flanny’s in Tempe to host Hogs & Hops on Saturday afternoon, then close early

Here’s the lowdown on the second annual Hogs & Hops at Flanny’s in Tempe from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. The indoor/outdoor event will feature barbecue, beers from Sonoran Brewing and Sierra Nevada, and live music.

Food

• Local hogs were raised on spent grain from Sonoran, then butchered and smoked. Pulled pork sandwiches and pulled pork platters (both with beans and slaw) will be available.

• Each will come with three BBQ sauces – the top three finishers at a BBQ sauce competition last weekend.

• Prices aren’t set yet because the hogs haven’t been delivered. Last year, prices were $9.99 for a sandwich and $12.99 for a platter.

• Only a limited number of items from Flanny’s regular menu will be available Saturday. (A couple of salads, a couple of sandwiches, etc.)

Beers

• Sonoran beers: White Chocolate Ale, Victorian IPA, Smooth Rebel Double IPA, Inebriator Stout, and Pink Peppercorn & Fennel Saison (cask).

• Sierra Nevada beers: Idaho 7 (new Harvest single-hop), Scotch Ale, barrel-aged Bigfoot barleywine, Hop Hunter IPA (cask), and Nooner pilsner.

Early closing

• After the festival, Flanny’s will close early at 6 p.m. so the staff can get some well-earned rest.
