1. The Great American Barbecue & Beer Festival returns to downtown Chandler for its sixth year Saturday. Hours will be noon to 10 p.m. More than 20,000 people are expected.
2. The festival grounds again will encompass both the east and west halves of AJ Chandler Park, as well as Arizona Avenue, which will be closed from Boston to Buffalo streets (map).
3. This year’s expanded festival will feature 20,000 pounds of pork ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, and chicken from 60 BBQ pitmasters;Â 200 kegs of craft beer; and 50 food vendors.
4. Participating restaurants will include Bourbon Jacks, Famous Dave’s, Porkopolis, Smoke Haus, Tom’s BBQ, Waldo’s BBQ, Honey Bear’s BBQ, and others.
5. Festival sponsor SanTan Brewing will be pouring several of its beers, including popular seasonal Mr. Pineapple wheat and the new LimeLeaf Cream Ale.
6. Headlining this year’s main stage will be the Eli Young Band. There will be a second stage on the west side of Arizona Avenue featuring local bands.
7. Other attractions will include 100-plus exhibitors, a March Madness lounge, Chester’s Harley Davidson pavilion, Ride Now off-road area, kid’s playland, and eating competitions.
8. You still have a couple days to get $12 tickets online. Otherwise, tickets will be $15 at the event. Children 12 and younger are admitted for free. Food and beverages are sold separately.
