A new season means the arrival of some new hand pies at AZ Food Crafters in Chandler.
While favorites like Italian Sausage & Peppers and The Hot Brown remain available, owners Eddie Castillo and Mike Caliendo (pictured) have added some mouth-watering new options.
Leading the way is the curry-inspired Jamaican Beef Patty, stuffed with grass-fed beef, potatoes, red bell pepper, onion, garlic, habanero pepper, coconut milk, spices, fresh thyme, sea salt, and lemon juice.
Another is Gold Potato & Mushroom, filled with potatoes, crimini mushrooms, onion, garlic, thyme, sea salt, black pepper, pecorino romano, and fontina cheeses and cream.
Prefer sweet over savory? Check out the Strawberry Lemon Crème, made with Arizona-grown lemons.
AZ Food Crafters also specializes in traditional round pies. New options include Mango Coconut Lime Custard, Bluebarb (blueberries and rhubarb, pictured), Key Lime, and Chocolate Cream.
Hand pies are $4. Traditional 9-inch round pies are $15; personal four-inch pies are $5.
AZ Food Crafters Bakery Cafe, located on the southeast corner of Alma School and Ray, is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
Hand pies also are sold at the Gilbert Farmers Market from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.
