Fledgling Chandler food truck roundup loses site, goes on hiatus until new site found

Downtown Ocotillo Food Trucks, which launched four weeks ago, was a victim of its own success, according to organizer Brian Denham.

The Friday night roundup started April 17 at the commercial development Downtown Ocotillo, near Dobson and Queen Creek roads, with just a couple vendors.

By last Friday, it had grown to 14 trucks and included a pair of live music acts.

“(The) property owner … had issues with how quickly we grew and the subsequent issues associated with sudden growth,” Denham says. “Most, if not all, were addressable.

“However, for the long-term success of Chandler food trucks, we needed to make the move now and find a location that will meet even more of our needs going forward.”

Organizers are looking for a new location close to Ocotillo, the south Chandler neighborhood where the idea for the roundup originated.

Their wish list of amenities includes grass, restrooms, power, and ample parking.

“Not likely we can get it all, but as many as possible would be nice,” Denham says. “This is a result of a great effort by the trucks and the incredible support by the community. So, in the end it is a good ‘problem’ to have.”
