Coconut Hut, a cafe offering healthy bowls and organic smoothies, has opened in the long-empty coffee shop space on the northeast corner of McQueen and Warner in Gilbert.
First-time restaurateurs Sheridan and Deslie Ghiorzi offer oatmeal, quinoa, and buckwheat bowls for breakfast and coconut (pictured), acai berry, and pitaya bowls for lunch and dinner.
Pitaya, if you didn’t know, is a slightly tart fruit – often described as similar to watermelon – from several types of cactus found throughout the Sonoran Desert.
Besides smoothies, Coconut Hut also has organic juices, coffee, tea, and coconut water.
Thirty-plus ingredients and toppings include so-called super foods like bee pollen, hemp seeds, goji berries, and spirulina.
Coconut Hut is open 6 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.
