Four Peaks Pumpkin Porter is here! Four Peaks Pumpkin Porter is here!

The thermometer still says summer, but the beer-release calendar says fall has arrived. Today, Four Peaks Brewing releases its mega-popular seasonal Pumpkin Porter.

Brewed with pumpkin puree, the beer debuted in 1999 – a time when you could count the number of pumpkin beers on one hand. Now, there are more than 1,000.

For the record, Pumpkin Porter isn’t meant to taste like pumpkin, but rather pumpkin pie spices. And, despite what you may hear or read in reviews, the recipe hasn’t changed in 17 years.

‘‘It’s funny,’’ head brewer Andy Ingram says. ‘‘People will always say, ‘Oh, that one in ’09, that was so good,’ or ‘The one is 2012, that was my favorite.’”

Pumpkin Porter is intended to be available on draft and in cans through Thanksgiving. Despite significantly increased production in recent years, it usually sells out early.
