Gilbert Food Truck Food Court likely to lose downtown site

Has the East Valley’s largest and longest-running weekly food truck roundup come to the end of its road?

The Gilbert Food Truck Food Court posted a dire-sounding message on its Facebook page today:

We’ve been fighting this for a lot longer than you know, but think we have finally lost the battle. There are a few in local government that want us out of the Heritage District and it looks like they are finally going to get their way. We are still working on a few more Hail Mary’s but don’t see much of a light at the end of the tunnel. … Come see us this week and next for what could the THE LAST TWO GILBERT FOOD COURT EVENTS IN DOWNTOWN! If this next week goes as we think it will, 12/18/15 will be our last event in this location.

Organizers are vowing to find a new site for the event, which has been taking place Friday nights in downtown Gilbert since 2012.

Throughout this year, Valley food trucks have been at odds with local bricks-and-mortar restaurants, which feel the trucks have an unfair financial advantage (since they don’t pay property taxes, etc.).

The Gilbert news comes in the wake of the demise of the fledgling Chandler Food Trucks weekly roundup (story) three months ago.
