There’s a decidedly global flavor to my 2015 list of favorite new restaurants in Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, and Mesa (restaurants listed in alphabetical order):
BP Street Cafe
What: Malaysian food, sorta where Chinese meets Indian. The menu is split between rice and rice dishes. About half are spicy.
Where: Southeast corner of McClintock &Â Broadway, Tempe.
Open:Â 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
FrinGo’s Kitchen
What: Puerto Rican food. Family-run. Mostly entrees with rice & beans, but none over $9.
Where: Northwest corner of Alma School & Warner, Chandler.
Open: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Max’s Mukhaase
What: African food representing all corners of the Dark Continent. Specials on weekends.
Where: Southwest corner of Alma School & Guadalupe, Mesa
Open: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle House
What: Chinese wheat noodles hand-pulled to order for soups or stir-fried dishes.
Where: Southeast corner of Dobson & First Avenue, Mesa
Open: 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
Nocawich
What: Scratch-kitchen breakfast and lunch sandwiches (aka “fine fast food”).
Where: College Avenue north of University, Tempe.
Open: 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. Closed for holidays until Jan. 11.
Oasis Bakery &Â Cuisine
What:Â Yemeni dishes, similar to Mediterranean but more Arabic-influenced.
Where: Southwest corner of McClintock & Apache, Tempe.
Open: 9 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
Pedal Haus Brewery
What: European-inspired brewpub & beer garden. Brewery headed by Arizona’s 2015 Brewer of the Year.
Where: Southwest corner of Mill & Seventh Street, Tempe.
Open:Â 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-midnight Thursday, 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Friday-Saturday.
Pollo Picante
What: Marinaded chicken cooked over an open mesquite grill.
Where: Northeast corner Country Club & Sixth Street, Mesa
Open: 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
Stufrageous
What:Â 6-ounce burgers stuffed with a variety of ingredients.
Where:Â Northeast corner of Alma School & Southern, Mesa.
Open: 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
US Fries
What: Poutine, a traditional Canadian dish of French fries topped with cheese curds & brown gravy. A variety of other toppings also available.
Where: Mill Avenue between Fourth & Fifth streets, Tempe
Open: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-3 a.m. Thursday, 11 a.m.-4 a.m. Friday-Saturday.
