Fast-casual Mexican food chain Chipotle is closed until 3 p.m. today for a company-wide safety briefing. The nationwide move comes in the wake of norovirus and E.coli outbreaks that sickened customers in 11 states in October and December.
About 50,000 Chipotle employees are expected to ‘‘attend’’ the meeting and hear remarks from executives from hotel conference rooms and movie theaters. The public can watch via Twitter and Periscope at noon.
Several chains are taking advantage of Chipotle’s half-day. On The Border, for example, is launching burrito boxes to-go in participating restaurants nationwide. Today only, all burrito boxes and Border Bowls will be $5 or $6 (depending on protein).
