Former Arizona Cardinals defensive end Andre Wadsworth has put sacks behind him and now is focusing on scoops. Scoops of ice cream, that is.
Wadsworth is teaming up with real estate expert Ryan Zeleznak to open up to 20 franchises for California-based Creamistry, which uses liquid nitrogen to make several kinds of ice cream (including premium, organic, Greek yogurt, non-dairy, vegan, gluten-free, and coconut milk) in nearly 40 flavors.
“Traditional ice cream is produced by freezing cream in a batch freezer for up to 45 minutes,’’ Wadsworth says. ‘‘Liquid nitrogen ice cream takes less than two minutes to make, and that will allow us to make fresh, customized ice cream by the scoop.’’
The Valley’s first Creamistry will open next month on the southeast corner of Camelback and Marshall Way in Scottsdale. The second will open next to the upcoming Lou Malnati’s Pizza at Uptown Plaza at Central and Camelback in Phoenix in May, followed by another at the Scottsdale Quarter in late May.
As an All-American at Florida State, Wadsworth was selected third overall by the Cardinals in the 1998 NFL draft, but multiple knee injuries ended his playing career after just three seasons.
