Nico, the newest addition to downtown Gilbert’s burgeoning dining scene, has announced it will open Saturday, May 14.

It will join recently opened Zinburger, Pomo Cucina & Pizzeria, Barrio Queen, and Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles at the new Heritage Marketplace.

Chef-owner Gio Osso is best-known for Virtù, one of Scottsdale’s top fine-dining restaurants. Virtù was nominated for the country’s Best New Restaurant in the prestigious James Beard Awards in 2014.

Nico, whose menu is described as ‘‘West Coast-inspired seasonal Italian,’’ is named after Osso’s young son. See the working menu here.

“I’ll be onsite every day,” says Osso, who lives near Nico. “From making all pasta in-house and by hand to picking and delivering fresh produce from the farmer’s market on Saturdays, Nico is literally going to be my home away from home.”
