Denver-based Tacos Tequila Whiskey will open its first out-of-state location on the northwest corner of 40th Street and Indian School in east Phoenix next spring.
Owner and chef Kevin Morrison (who previously co-founded Spicy Pickle sub shops) launched the concept, then known as Pinche Tacos, as a food truck in 2010.
Today, it has two bricks-and-mortar locations in Denver, a third in the works, and still operates the food truck.
The menu offers ‘‘modern Mexican street food’’ – primarily, 16 kinds of tacos ranging from the traditional, such as carne asada and carnitas, to the more rare, such as cordero (lamb) and hongos (mushrooms).
The Phoenix location under construction will be 2,000 square feet plus a patio.
