Perfect Pear Bistro to take over former Revival/Mucho Gusto space in Tempe

By Jess Harter Thursday, August 25, 2016

Perfect Pear Bistro is taking over the former Mucho Gusto and The Revival building on the southwest corner of Sixth Street and University, just west of downtown Tempe.

Chris and Laura Hove, industry veterans who opened 30 restaurants in four states, launched their own concept, Perfect Pear, in Ahwatukee in 2013. They added a second location in south Tempe in 2014.

The restaurant features modern American comfort foods like salads, sandwiches, grilled cheeses, soups, tacos, and pasta dishes. It also offers craft beers, wine, and cocktails.

Chris Hove says the new location, scheduled to open in mid-October, is seeking servers, hostesses, cooks, and dishwashers. Applicants should apply at either current location.

Perfect Pear takes over a space with a troubled history in recent years.

Mucho Gusto owner Chad Withycombe closed his longtime Mexican restaurant in June 2014 and reopened a month later as The Revival.

The Revival featured contemporary American fare from former House of Tricks chef Kelly Fletcher and a wine program designed by Valley sommelier Dave Johnson.

The concept never took off. Less than four months later, The Revival returned to Mexican food. Fletcher left shortly afterward.

A few months later, The Revival announced it would take a summer hiatus and return in the fall. It never reopened.
