For months, Fox Restaurant Concepts has been teasing fans with cryptic clues about a new concept debuting in Arcadia in early 2017.
Back in February, Fox himself posted a photo of a hand-drawn teaser (pictured) on social media. The restaurant’s temporary working name was “P+C,” and it would be located at 44th Street and Indian School.
Rumors quickly spread the new concept – the Phoenix-based group’s 16th brand – would involve rotisserie chicken, likely the “C” part of the temporary name.
Then, earlier this summer, FRC applied for a liquor license for a restaurant called “FRC 44 Chicken” – obviously still a temporary name – at 4385 E. Indian School.
Now, Fox has told AZ Central the concept will be called Doughbird. Besides chicken, it will, interestingly, feature pizza. (Thus “P+C.”)
I say interestingly because Fox build much of his company’s early success on Sauce Pizza & Wine, his most popular concept in terms of number of locations.
But Fox sold the Sauce concept and all nine of its locations to a group headed by Scott Kilpatrick, one of the original founders of Ra Sushi, in early 2015.
Now it appears Fox is back in the pizza game with Doughbird planning to offer a seasonal menu of 12-15 pizzas and three flavors of rotisserie chicken.
Doughbird is expected to open in February.
