Yet another acclaimed restaurant from Chicago is coming to the Valley. But this time there’ll be no deep-dish pizza on the menu.
Lao Sze Chuan, the Windy City’s best-known Chinese restaurant, will open a new location next month on the southeast corner of Dobson and Main in Mesa, according to AZ Central.
It takes over a former Blockbuster video-rental store across the street from Mekong Plaza.
Lao Sze Chuan specializes in bold and spicy Sichuan cuisine from southwest China. It offers both traditional and Americanized dishes.
Owner Tony Hu built an empire of nearly two dozen restaurants nationwide before being pleading guilty to wire fraud and money laundering earlier this year.
Hu, who agreed to serve at least 33 months in prison and pay $1 million in back taxes, has sold or closed all of his restaurants except for two Lao Sze Chuan locations in Chicago.
