8 things you need to know about A Taste of Greece in Chandler this weekend

1. The fall edition of the twice-a-year A Taste of Greece festival takes place this weekend at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church (map) in Chandler. Hours are 5-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.

2. Free parking and shuttle bus service is available at Seton High School (map).

3. Festival admission is $3; kids under 12 are free. You can get one free admission by liking the festival’s Facebook page (which you can do on the festival’s home page). Any food and drink is purchased separately.

4. An indoor dining hall will offer sit-down meals, including lamb shanks, pastichio (baked macaroni with a seasoned tomato-cinnamon meat sauce), moussaka (eggplant and potatoes with seasoned meat sauce), and spanakopita (spinach, onions, and cheeses inside flaky filo).

5. Outdoor booths will be selling chicken and lamb gyros, Greek sausages, barbecued lamb, and saganaki (flaming cheese). There also will be a variety of baklava and other pastries.

6. Beverages will include Greek coffee, ouzo (an anise-flavored aperitif), and Metaxa (a Greek liqueur). American coffee, beer, and wine also will be available.

7. Entertainment will include Greek live music and costumed folk dancing. Dance instruction will take place at 8 p.m. Friday and 3:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

8. A vendors marketplace will be selling Greek imports, arts and crafts, jewelry, CDs, books, icons, and much more.
