Black Rock Coffee Bar, a cool coffeehouse chain out of Portland, makes its Arizona debut Friday on the southwest corner of Alma School & Ocotillo in south Chandler.

To celebrate, the store (pictured below during construction) will be giving away free medium (16-ounce) drinks from 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday.

Besides classic and premium coffee drinks, Black Rock offers iced coffees and blended ‘‘chillers’’ in flavors like Caramel Blondie, Oreo, and Mint Chip.

Don’t drink coffee? They also have premium teas, smoothies, chai latte, hot chocolate, and Italian sodas.

Local franchisee Bobby Kaufman has two more East Valley locations in the works.

The first of those – on Power Road, a quarter-mile south of Ray, in Mesa – is scheduled to open in mid-January.

The other – on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Loop 202 in Chandler – has been delayed since the site developer halted construction. No reason has been given.

Black Rock currently has 22 locations in Oregon, 10 in Washington, and one in California.
