Citing a disgreement with its landlord, Unwined Bar & Bistro has closed on the northeast corner of Desert Foothills Parkway and Chandler Boulevard in Ahwatukee.
The wine bar opened in February 2014, and was sold to Jeff and Karen Stefl in April 2015.
According to their Facebook announcement:
It is with sincere regret that we announce that Unwined has closed. We were in lease negotiations with our landlord for weeks when we found out that our walk in cooler was not in compliance with current health codes relating to the type of freon used in the unit.
Since this unit is owned by our landlord we asked her to make the necessary repairs which were in excess of 10,000. She refused. Because we could not hold proteins at correct temps we were forced to forego the new lease.
Thank you for your support these last 2 years. We will miss you but will let you know where Unwined Too will be located!
The Stefls have plenty to keep hem busy in the meantime. This weekend, they and their sons are launching Twisted Cactus Brewing Company in Chandler.
